The Aquaculture Program is participating in innovative research at the Achotines Lab in Panama, as part of a collaborative agreement between the IATTC and the CSF. These include microbiological environmental control in live feeds production and larval rearing of yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares. Development of maturation, spawning and larval husbandry techniques of Southern flounder, (Paralichthys lethostigma), in collaboration with Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution (HBOI) in Ft. Pierce, Florida - www.hboi.edu Hatchery production and growout of mutton snapper and greater amberjack in offshore cage systems, DOC/NOAA/NSG GRANT NO. NA06RG-008. Physiology of billfishes (Istiophoridae) during early developmental stages. Billfish Program of the UM Center for Sustainable Fisheries (CSF), in collaboration with the Inter American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC). This research project involves the capture of juveniles and young adult billfish (sailfish) and subsequent maintenance of these fish in tanks at the Achotines laboratory in Panama. |
